PART 2:
The Man Beneath the Restaurant
Everett Calloway was known throughout Seattle’s hospitality industry as a man who did not tolerate disorder.
He owned three restaurants, a catering company and part of the waterfront building where Harbor & Ash operated. Employees said he could identify an overcooked steak from across the dining room and remember every supplier invoice without writing anything down.
He rarely smiled.
He never discussed his personal life.
Yet when Brielle stepped into his office, she saw him holding Elodie with surprising care. One broad hand supported the baby’s back while the other rested protectively beneath her small legs.
His eyes were closed.
For one brief moment, he did not look like the distant businessman everyone feared. He looked like a tired man holding something precious he had once believed was gone forever.
